10 Bands That Have Never Won A Grammy

Bands that didnt win grammy
The Grammys are called the Holy Grail of Music. Winners include bands like Metallica, The Beatles, Iron Maiden, Coldplay, Bon Jovi etc. Its THE award for all haves and have nots of music and a musician’s talent can often be judged by the amount of Grammy nominations and/or wins. Is that so? Here are 10 names of bands so legendary that’ll challenge this claim.

10. The Velvet Underground

(Source)
Not a very famous band, but not many in the history of music can claim to have had such an effect on its listeners. Active from New York from 1964 to 1973, the rock band is said to have sold only 30,000 copies but every one of those 30,000 people have then formed their own bands! I guess the Grammy Commitee wasn’t impressed!

9. Deep Purple

grammy
Oh yea, no Grammy for the makers of the song that has defined and literally created Metal – Smoke on the Water! Their counterparts of the Unholy Trinity of Britain, namely Led Zepplin (only this year) and Black Sabbath have won Grammys. Formed in Hertford in 1968, no one, and I mean it, no one has not heard of Deep Purple or heard their superhit Smoke on the Water. But the Grammys heard it and didn’t award it. Swell!

8. Guns N’ Roses

grammy
No, no, no! This is wrong! Axle Rose? Check. Slash? Check. Awesomeness? Check. Legends? Check. Grammy? Oops! What has happened here? Their influence on Rock can hardly be exaggerated. We know the band is no longer the same now and can never ever regroup to what it was, so it means in all probability their chance at the Grammy is gone too. Despite hits like “November Rain”, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City”, the Grammys never recognised them. Just sad.

7. Oasis

Oasis
What really? Well, yes! Among the most loved bands ever, especially known throughout the world for their single “Wonderwall”. Formed in the 90s and originating from England, the band has even been nominated thrice, but the award seems forever out of their reach. Bands like Coldplay and The Killers have mentioned Oasis as their inspiration. Now with the band broken up and unlikely to ever come together again, here lies another legendary band without a Grammy.

6. En Vogue

grammy
Perhaps among the most famous, successful and influential female groups to ever have made music. Winners of the MTV Video Music Awards 7 times, the highest by any female group, and boasting more than 2800 weeks on the Billboard Charts, it is no overstatement to say that they deserved a Grammy. Originating from California, the R&B group is among the most celebrated in their genres of music. But nope, not enough for the Grammys.

5. The Who

the who
You’re kidding me, right? By no means my dear fellow! Uh huh, The Who remain Grammyless to this day expect for that grotesque Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 as if that will atone the Grammy for their sin! And a sin it was. With breathtaking works like “My Generation”, The Who is one band that just had to win a Grammy! And the fact that they haven’t makes millions’ blood boil!
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd
grammy
The southern hard rock band from Florida is easily among the most active bands of all time, when you look at their number of years of practice. Formed in the 1960s, the band still continues to release music of the highest quality, depite the death of 7 of its former members. Originally called The Pretty Ones, its obvious why they changed their name! Nevermind the fact that their name is still so weird and devilishly hard to pronounce! Wait..! Maybe the Grammy Commitee can’t pronounce it and so to avoid public scrutiny have never awarded them! Whoa!

3. The Doors

The Doors
Jim Morrison has never won a grammy? What? Never? Yes, never! The golden voiced frontman with his iconic band have had but a small span of practice. They were active for roughly 8 years only; the untimely death of Jim 6 years after they were formed being the main reason. Despite that, his entry into the infamous “Forever 27 Club” has all but made The Doors gain more popularity! However the Grammys never seem to have heard of a Jim Morrison and The Doors! If they did, they could not have excluded them this way!

2. Queen

Queen
I dont believe you. This can’t be true. Sorry. Nope. Sigh… Trust me, we all feel that way when someone tells us this. You really have to question an institution like the Grammys when a band like Queen, not just famous and talented, but having a God like aura, is not among their list of awardees. It’s not sad anymore, it’s plain stupid. Here comes another twist. They were nominated thrice; once for Another One Bites the Dust and twice for…guess what? Bohemian Rhapsody. Yes. That song lost two times. Must’ve hurt Freddie Mercury like all hell. Way to go Grammy!

1. The Jimi Hendrix Experience
