While the music festival season is just around the corner, Bangalore has an exciting list of artistes and band performances to look forward to in August. This month has a great mix of genres of music, so if you are a rock music fan or an electronic music enthusiast, there is something for everyone. So, go ahead and block your calendars for these dates and tell your friends as well.
1st August: MADBOY VS MINK and Clown With A Frown - The Humming Tree, Funk/Nu-disco

Well, no rest for the wicked! These disco heads have tired out the toe tips and heels across the country in the last few months, only to come back to do more of that. In the roaring glory of their latest release, Saba and Imaad are back with some heady old school blues infused with nu-disco and electro-swing. This one is a ticket to relentless dancing. The proceedings start with the Bangalore multi-piece ensemble, Clown With A Frown.
8th August: EL_TXEF_A India Tour - The Humming Tree, Deep Electronica

El_Txef_A aka Aitor Etxebarria is from the Basque country, well known for exploring different sounds that are deep, dark and sometimes pleasant. Mystical tunes that will totally take you into an alternate state of mind and a sense of free flowing energies. We are not sure how often will we see Aitor in our city, performing in the neighbourhood, so we're definitely not missing this one and we suggest you mark this one on your calendar for sure! Early set by Stalvart John.
14th August: The Black Mamba Tour ft. Suman Sridhar and The Oracle - Blue Frog, Neo-soul / Afro-Indian

Suman Sridhar, one half of Sridhar/Thayil, hit the scene in 2008 and Jeet Thayil’s distinct guitar work and Sridhar’s powerful voice caught attention with their unusualness. Suman Sridhar has a new avatar, Oracle and is launching her solo album. The Black Mamba tour is to promote this album, that promises a trance experience. If you like to experience different genres of music, then this one is highly recommended.
19th August: Vachan Chinnappa 100 ways with Drum and Bass - The Warehouse, Drum and Bass

If you have felt that bass pressure on the door as you open it to enter the sweat-laden, dark basement of The Warehouse on a Thursday night, you know what we're talking about. For those uninitiated, swing by for some banging old school jungle, breakbeat and drum and bass and the earlier mentioned will become a weekly ritual.
21st August: F16’s - Blue Frog, Alternative/Electro-rock

These young Chennai boys are extremely entertaining and high on energy in their live performances. This alternative/electro-rock band has earned fans across India and have played in most of the esteemed festivals in the country. Their music will appeal to rock music lovers and bassheads.
22nd August: The Circus - The Humming Tree, Alternative Rock

This is an exciting one in this list, given this uber-tight, booming quartet has been away for a bit now. We heard a new album is brewing too, after the banging last one; "Bats" - sketching the idea of a massive gig to completion.
28th August: Talvin Singh Live - The Piazza, UB City, Asian Underground/ Indian Classical Drum and Bass

In the chronology of the gigs scheduled, this one is landing up right towards the end, making the proverbial 'best for the last' fit in here impeccably. Here's the bottom line - it is not wise to miss an artist who's been seminal across music generations - from Anokha, those space bound East London club nights in the early 90s to the Asian underground. It is an outstanding live performance with innovative sounds of Indian classical table and drum and bass This one is a go go!
29th August: Poets of the Fall - St. Johns Medical College Ground, Rock

After successfully launching their fifth album, the poets are revisiting the town with some great rock music and performances extended from their theatrical and cinematic videos. The Finnish rockers that started out from scratch in 2003, are bringing some extra excitement after successful tours in Europe, USA and Asia. So saddle up and head to the venue.
